Ordering a banner is easy. Ordering the right banner takes a little planning. Here is how to choose a size, a type and a layout that people can read.
Common banner types
Flex (PVC) banners
The most common outdoor banner in Ghana. It is printed on strong vinyl, has eyelets (metal rings) on the edges, and is tied to a wall, gate or frame with rope or cable ties. It handles sun and rain well for months.
Popular sizes are 6×3 ft (about 1.8×0.9 m) for small gates and classrooms, 8×4 ft (about 2.4×1.2 m) for school gates, church walls and shops, and 10×5 ft or larger for stages and roadsides.
Roll‑up banners
A tall banner in a metal stand that rolls into a carry case. It is perfect indoors: receptions, church foyers, exhibitions and speech days. A common size is about 85×200 cm. It is easy to move and set up in a minute.
Backdrops
Large banners placed behind a stage or as a photo background, often repeating a logo. Size depends on your stage, so measure it first.
How big should the text be?
A useful rule of thumb: letters about 2.5 cm (1 inch) tall can be read well from about 3 metres (10 feet). So if people will read your banner from 15 metres across a road, your main words should be roughly 12 cm tall or more. This is why banners should carry only a few words.
What to put on it
- The name (school, church or business) and logo
- One main message: "Admissions in progress", "Grand Harvest 2026"
- Phone or WhatsApp number in large figures
- Optional: a short list of 3–4 items (for example, classes or services)
Avoid long sentences, small photos with faces people cannot see, and thin fonts.
Image quality
Because banners are viewed from a distance, files around 100–150 dpi at full size usually look sharp. Logos should be clear (ideally vector files) so they do not become blurry when enlarged.
Before you order
- Measure the space where the banner will hang.
- Decide indoor (roll‑up) or outdoor (flex).
- Count the words. Fewer is better.
- Ask for a draft and check spelling and numbers.
